An issue that I have dealt with constantly in my life is keeping focus. The reason why this is very challenging for me is because I have a hard time recognizing what could be a distraction. A way that I have overcome this issue is to first maintain my body's focus by taking slow deep breaths and by asking myself what is disrupting my focus. Then once I find out what that is I will minimize my mental input on what could be a distraction, good examples for this would be fluorescent lighting, screened electronics or background music. After that I would minimize my physical input to the distraction. If this does not help I would check my body's signals to make sure that I'm not hungry or need water and I would ask myself this because I noticed that I get more distracted when I am hungry or dehydrated.

Good morning, James. I have been so grateful for your blog. We know each other from the pool where I have admired your diligence and skill in keeping us safe. When I see you counting each swimmer, I know that your focus is on us like a shepherd counting his sheep. Thank you for that. And for these words about focus. I am the pastor at the Presbyterian church, and I will be sharing your words about keeping focus in my sermon this morning -- which is about the importance of using our ears. You have reminded me with this post that it is not only about our ears, but being able to focus on the important parts of what we hear.
ReplyDeleteSee you at the pool!

Good going Jimmy. I know you from the swimming pool, and I shared your blog with a friend of mine who has an autistic child. All the best!
